Book Review: Star Wars Galaxy's Edge A Crash of Fate

So this was a pretty exciting find – not only to be able to read a Star Wars book before a trip to Disney, but to have it be a Galaxy’s Edge book to introduce elements of the new Star Wars land! What a great idea…assuming the book is the same quality as the normal Star Wars books (usually from good to very good).

There were two Galaxy’s Edge books available. The first one involved someone on a secret mission exploring Black Spire outpost. The second involved two people obviously destined to fall in love…but promised “space pirates”. Since I know Hondo is prominently involved with Galaxy’s Edge (which, by the way, kicks so much ass), I chose the second option.

I chose poorly. This book drags and drags. The meet-cute between the two main characters is so forced it defies belief. It read like a poorly done YA novel. Look, there’s room for everyone in Star Wars – but it only works if you’re there for Star Wars stories, not reheated romance.

Yes, there were space pirates. Maybe three of them, so plural. Yes, Hondo’s name appeared in the book. No, Hondo did not appear in the book (why the heck not?!?! It’s not like he’s a Luke Skywalker-level untouchable or something!). But we did get…Hondo’s second in command! Um, underwhelming.

There were a few things to note about Galaxy’s Edge from the book – I’m assuming there’s a store called Dok Endar’s Antiquities, and if so I’ll look forward to seeing the lifesize Wampaa. But some things have already changed – I know that Endorian Tip Yip has already been changed to “Fried Chicken”.

So, pretty disappointing – two out of ten hot dogs.
